Explore Paphos!
Paphos remains the country’s most popular tourist destination, with great year-round weather allowing you to make the most of its Mediterranean history, culture and beaches.
But there is far more to Paphos than hotels and sun - why not take time to research the area and find out what there is to see and do before you get here?
The city itself comprises a charming old town, (filled with colourful architecture, alfresco restaurants and great harbour views), with a host of nearby ancient ruins, a lively nightlife scene and great options for day trips such as vineyard tours or visits to other nearby towns.
Historical highlights include the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and its many ruins – which range from villas and mosaics to a 4th-century acropolis and the Odeon, an outdoor theatre – as well as the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery and the Harbour Castle.
Wineries.
A popular outing for holiday makers is a visit to one of the local wineries. Here in Paphos you are spoilt for choice with an abundance of wineries open to visitors. Choose from Fikardos, Sterna, Tsangarides, Makarounas, Kalamos, Ezouosa Kolios, Vouni Panayia, Vasilikon, Shoufas, Nelion, Nikodemos, Makkas and Zenon wineries.
Culture.
Culture wise the municipality is littered with monasteries, churches and archaeological sites to visit, including the castle at Paphos Harbour and the site of the Tombs of the Kings. Venture further afield and discover the traditional way of life in Cypriot villages.
The Troodos Mountains.
The Troodos mountains present a different side of Cyprus, with quiet mountain villages surrounded by dense pine forest and medieval churches sitting alongside historic monasteries. The cooler temperatures that you will experience at higher altitudes will allow for summer hiking and, in the winter months, you can even go skiing on the slopes of Cyprus’s tallest peak, Mount Olympus.
Arguably, the best mountain base for tourists is Troodos village, the main settlement which sits just under Mount Olympus. Some of the most desirable villages to visit include Fikardou, Pedoulas and Agros, all of which are well-preserved and filled with churches and russet-roofed buildings that hug the verdant hills.
Nature.
In the Troodos, hiking trails include the Caledonia, Millomeris and Artemis. Or closer to home in Paphos, why not take time to explore the Akamas Peninsula? You can go by yourselves or book a jeep/Buggy or Quad tour. Look out for the Avakas Gorge, the Adonis Baths Waterfalls, the Blue Lagoon, Lara Beach Turtle Conservation Station, the Baths of Aphrodite and Tala Monastery Cat Park.
Cruises and Water Tours.
Various day cruises from Paphos Harbour and Latchi Harbour can be booked including glass bottom boat cruises, VIP cruises, Elite cruises, Pirate cruises, turtle watch cruises, cruises to the Blue Lagoon, BBQ cruises, fireworks cruises, full and half day cruises.
Childrens Attractions.
The youngsters are catered for too. There is the Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark, Paphos Zoo, Pony-Trekking and Horse-riding, the Jolly Roger Pirate Cruise (from Paphos Harbour), Go-Karting and Mini-Golf.
Getting Around and Sightseeing.
There is so much to see and so many different ways to see it all!
Paphos Segway tour, Paphos Harbour, Historic day tours, City sightseeing, Lander Explorers, Eco tours, Quad/ Buggy Tours, Jeep Safaris, the Fun Bus, the House of Dionysus, Tombs of the Kings, Saranta Kolones Castle, St Solomons Catacombs, Avakas Gorge and so much more.
Although Cyprus is primarily recognised for its archaeological sites, wildlife, rugged terrain, wineries, monuments and food, it is also generally considered to be one of the best diving locations in the Mediterranean, as those who have already dived here will testify.
